With a trip to Bangkok you’ll experience everything from dining at rooftop venues to shopping at wholesale markets, but what you really can’t miss are some of the city’s trendiest cafés. Take a break from the city hustle, be a local and enjoy a relaxing break in one of our personally tried and recommended Top 5 Cafés To Visit in Bangkok.
Furthermore, if you want to stay in your hotel room for a while, you can order coffee from websites such as Iron & Fire and make one for yourself and your partner to enjoy a simple kitchen romance. If you plan on staying for an extended period, you can choose fortnightly delivery and pay for coffee in a subscription.
1. Roast Coffee & Eatery
The Roast Coffee & Eatery near the Thonglor BTS station is situated on the second floor of Seenspace, an eclectic collection of dessert shops, restaurants, bars (in the evenings), and even some boutique clothing. When stepping into Roast, you feel like you’ve been temporarily transported outside Bangkok as the decorations give off a very New York City vibe with its artistic newspaper menu and cosy loft setting.
They have a menu of very fulfilling, large-portioned dishes – even their Caesar Salad alone can make one full. A great dessert dish that we absolutely loved was their Half Baked Cookie, which is half baked cookie dough in a cup with chocolate fillings and a vanilla ice-cream on top. But of course, they also have a variety of coffee, teas, and other creative beverages you could choose from if you’re in the mood for something light and refreshing. Roast also recently opened a new branch at the EmQuartier which is connected to the Phrom Phong BTS station.
2. Café Claire
A peaceful restaurant café on the lobby floor of the Oriental Residence Bangkok, opposite the All Season’s Place, the Café Claire is decorated with contemporary European flair and leaves you feeling like you’re sitting in a French café. Although the Café Claire offers a menu of full meals – both European and local Thai cuisine, they also have an Afternoon Tea set directly served at your table and a selection of teas, coffees, and desserts you could choose from.
We particularly like the Afternoon Tea set as the Café Claire gives a handsome portions designed for 2 with a selection of mini-sandwiches, quiches, scones, brownies, éclairs, tarts, strawberry mousses, and TWG macarons. Along with that, you get a menu of TWG teas you can choose from or you can opt for some hot or cold coffee instead.
3. Greyhound Café
Also located in Thonglor and offering different branches in several major shopping malls and community malls, the Greyhound Café is not far from Seenspace in Thonglor Soi 13 at the J Avenue community mall. Another place that’s not strictly a coffee shop that just serves drinks and sweets, the Greyhound Café has a menu of fusion food with both international and local options. For a light meal, we definitely recommend the Sandwich in a Bowl and for something heavier, the Fettucine Pesto with Scallops and Asparagus and Elvis Burger are also very good options.
Next to the Greyhound Café is a little sister shop cutely named the Sweet Hound where they serve a selection of desserts and creative drinks that could also be enjoyed in the main Greyhound Café. We particularly liked their Cookies and Cream Waffle and Flourless Chocolate Cake that are great choices to enjoy with some coffee or tea.
4. Chu Chocolate Bar & Café
The Chu Chocolate Bar & Café is very easy to get to – all you have to do is to get off the Asok BTS station and walk to Exchange Tower on the connecting sky walk and you’ll find Chu on the left hand side when you enter, just opposite the True Fitness. The Chu Chocolate Bar & Café offers exposed décor with a casual urban vibe. Similarly to the venues mentioned above, our favourite mains include the Carbonara with Poached Egg, Penne Vodka Salmon, Breakfast Panini, and many more. However, they are famous for their desserts and beverages such as their Dark Hot Chocolate and selection of cheesecakes – we absolutely loved the Mars Bar Cheesecake! There are also brownies, muffins, and even a menu of artfully designed desserts such as their vanilla ice-cream sandwiched by two big soft chocolate chip cookies. Also note that the Chu Chocolate Bar & Café is a great place for breakfast with their famous Eggs Benedict.
Cascade is located on the Lobby Level of the Amari Watergate Bangkok hotel, right opposite the Platinum Fashion Mall.
