#DiscoverAmari recently visited the beautiful coastal town of Krabi located in the south of Thailand to see a live honey harvest resulting from ONYX Hospitality Group’s corporate social responsibility initiative Plan BEE Rural Beekeeping, which Amari is also a proud supporter of.
Launched in 2013, Plan BEE Rural Beekeeping is a community project that provides rural communities with practical training from an experienced apiculturist (bee keeper) and the start-up tools to maintain a healthy Asian honeybee population because they also play an important role in helping sustain the world’s human population.
The first Plan BEE Rural Beekeeping project was launched at Baan Khao Kram village in Krabi in November 2013. By learning beekeeping and how to harvest honey rural citizens are able to develop retail products such as honey for cooking and consumption as well as honey-infused lotions and soaps that can become a source of supplementary income.
ONYX Hospitality Group CEO Mr. Peter Henley and Director – Corporate Social Responsibility Ms. Lisa Thomas were present as current project participants received certificates of participation, talked about their positive experiences with the Plan BEE Rural Beekeeping project and also encouraged others to get involved.
The highlight of the day was seeing a live honey harvest and tasting honey fresh off the honeycomb:
