Top 5 Things to Do in Koh Samui

Sure, Koh Samui is known for its lush beaches and soft white sand. And, no trip to this island is complete without experiencing a dip into the Gulf of Thailand from our private beach. But, there is more to this tropical paradise than just the beach and pool. Take some time and explore all this gorgeous getaway in southern Thailand has to offer. Not sure where to start? Here’s our Top 5 Things to Do in Koh Samui.

Snorkeling

The clear blue water of the Gulf is home to heaps of sea life. Instead of just getting into the water from the beach, hop on a tour excursion and head into the depths of the water and don some snorkel gear. Many tours operate out of Koh Samui and include not only snorkeling where visitors can often see schools of fish, eel, sting rays and more, but also pack in a day of beaching to small islands off of Koh Samui via long tail boat. Day trips can whisk people from Koh Samui over to the water of Koh Tao, where even more of a snorkel paradise awaits.

Sip rum

Forget Sangsom while vacationing in Koh Samui. Instead, head inland to sip on some island-brewed rum at the Magic Alambic rum distillery. Yes, there is a rum distillery on the island. And, it is open to the public. Simply hire a car or a songthaew and visit this lush open-air tasting spot which serves up shots of the rum in four flavors (take it as is, or mix it with some tasty syrup), then enjoy the surroundings, chat with others, and take in an entirely different Koh Samui experience. After you’ve sampled the sweet goodies, you can even purchase some to take back home with you.

Party like a rockstar

Not all of Koh Samui is quiet. At night, after the sun has gone done, Chaweng comes alive. And by alive, we mean pulsing with adults of all ages enjoying whisky buckets and more. There’s the well-known Green Mango, which has earned a reputation for being the must-go club on the island. For a more toned down version of partying like a rock star, head to the quieter areas off the main drag of bars.

Explore the Secret Buddha Garden

Tucked deep into the mountains inland, the Secret Buddha Garden or Magic Garden, is one of the island’s gems. Here, you’ll find statues and temples erected amidst jungle foliage and flowing streams. The garden was created in the late 1970s by Nim Thongsuk and today, while it is off-the-beaten-path, is a popular destination for island-goers.

Hit up the Fisherman’s Village Walking Street

The first walking street in Koh Samui, and originally a French outpost, this charming swath of island features tiny shops selling the perfect take-home memories of time spent here. Plus, every Friday night, the main street closes down and there’s a market to shop, eat, drink and enjoy even more of a slice of paradise. What are your favorite things to do in Koh Samui?
