Bangkok – So this pick may seem a bit out of place among our list of tropical beaches – but the Thai capital can indeed be a romantic place. Dine high above the city at one of the many rooftop restaurants or take an enchanting cruise on the river. Bangkok gives you and your loved one a chance to enjoy as much seclusion or excitement as you wish.

Bangkok

Koh Chang – Perhaps the most peaceful place on our list – Koh Chang is Thailand’s hidden island gem ideal for a romantic getaway. Lounge near the turquoise waters or explore the verdant jungles – Koh Chang offers a charming yet exotic refuge from the bustle of modern life.

Amari Emerald Cove Koh Chang

This emerald paradise was once a remote and unknown island destination – frequented mostly by pirates and sea gypsies.

Nowadays there are a lot less wannabe Captain Jack Sparrows and a lot more cool things to do.
  • Hiking – Koh Chang is known for its pristine surroundings which include some absolutely spectacular waterfalls. We suggest you check out the hiking routes Klong Son to Kai Bae and Kai Bae to Bang Bao.
  • Elephant Trekking – Supported by the Asian Elephant Foundation – there are ample opportunities to ride upon these behemoths in the jungle.
  • Mountain Biking – Hop on a mountain bike and unleash your inner Lance Armstrong (ok, we know he wasn’t a mountain biker). Bikes are available for rent at Hat Sai Khao and Hat Kaibae.
  • Canoeing – The beautiful mangrove forests of Koh Chang are best explored via canoe. Be sure to bring some sunscreen, insect repellent, and perhaps a light snack.
  • Diving & Snorkeling – While the diving is not as renowned as some other spots in Thailand – there are plenty of spots worth a day trip.
  • Culture – Numerous villagers have stuck to their old school way of life and you can check it out first hand at Bang Bao Fishery Village where every dwelling is built in the sea.
  • Food – The local dishes here revolve around seafood – so if you’re not a lover of the delights of the briny blue then you may want to check out some of the local fruits which include mangosteen, pineapple and grapes.
And of course – be sure to visit Amari Emerald Cove Koh Chang if you’re looking for a 5-star resort experience with a little flair.
